Who develops cognitive impairment, how does risk change over time, and which differences matter for prevention?

The Korean Longitudinal Study on Health and Aging provides a foundation for studying cognition together with physical health, function and aging. It is a distinct cohort from KLOSCAD.
The Korean Frailty and Aging Cohort Study is a nationwide, multicentre longitudinal study of community-dwelling older adults. Repeated assessments of frailty, physical function, cognition and health help examine transitions in frailty and risk factors for adverse outcomes, providing a basis for prevention research. The Korean Registry for Activating Trial on Dementia Therapeutics supports identification and characterization of potential clinical-study participants. Eligibility is study-specific.
The Korean Registry for Activating Trial on Dementia Diagnostics combines clinical and neuropsychological evaluation, neuroimaging and biospecimens across cognitive states.
The Nationwide Survey on Dementia Epidemiology of Korea uses population sampling, screening and diagnostic assessment to estimate dementia and mild cognitive impairment prevalence.
KLOSDIC addresses cognitive aging in clinical settings; the Osan Mental Health Survey provides experience in community mental-health assessment. Historical projects are distinguished from currently recorded work below.
A comparison of the 2008 and 2017 national surveys found that the decline in overall dementia prevalence was not statistically significant. Population estimates require consistent diagnostic methods and attention to uncertainty.
